3 things to remember on International Women's day

Unless you are living in a hole, or didn't get access to social media or any media for that matter, today is 8 March aka International Women's day. I must admit for most of my life this day has only been noted through the likes of an email from my mother or a random social media post, nothing that stuck with me for more than a second or two. However drawing close to the big 2-5 and hopefully with it a few more added years of wisdom, I feel this day offers ALL of us of both genders, some key points to note.
The ACTUAL definition of feminism. This is mainly for those of you who haven't had Beyonce's Flawless on repeat. Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. Please please please can we in the next 100 years or so have obtained the knowledge worldwide that this does not equate to man hating. The fact that women should be treated more equally has NOTHING to do with the detriment of it's male counterparts. For more information please speak to your local (very annoyed) feminist.

The Celebration of Success. Not long ago, a very young girl overcame terrible terror and tragedy and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work across the globe fighting for women's rights after an experience that almost took her life.  This girl is no one other than Malala Yousafzai who as a result became the most inspirational woman of this decade. The most important part of it is that it doesn't just have to be someone on telly. Inspiring women are all around us, be it Beyonce, our role model managers or our beautiful mothers - there is always someone around us who inspires us and we should celebrate!

The Shocking facts. Did you know that one in every four women alive TODAY was a child bride? 4% of all top billing companies in the world have female CEOs, thats 24 women to be precise. Currently around 64 million children in the world are denied access to any education. UNICEF states that if every girl in the African continent was to get secondary education, child marriage would drop by a shocking 64%.

So what I am really trying to say is, it's kinda a big deal. International Women's day raises awareness for atleast a second in a day every year the importance of women. Some that can't receive education, some that were never allowed freedom and some that work terribly hard everyday in their senior positions pretending not to know exactly how much more their male counterparts are making doing the same job.

But hey...let me end on a positive note and say that it also raises awareness on all the amazing and inspirational females of the world who have broken all barriers thrown at them...lets celebrate them too...and let's also not forget in the process all the men who support such women. I can't on a day like this forget the fathers who do the school run, the husbands that cook dinners and the boyfriends who do airport drops. Thank you to you too!

Happy International Women's day!
